About Lisa

Lisa Weber received her LL.B. from the University of Alberta in 1999 and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 2000.  In 2005 she received her LL.M. from the University of Manitoba, and is member of the Alberta bar, and member of the Law Societies of British Columbia and Manitoba.

Lisa has been a lawyer for twenty years. For 9 of those years she was an adjudicator and then Deputy Chief Adjudicator presiding over claims of former students of Indian Residential Schools for sexual and physical abuse they endured at those institutions, presiding over hearings and appeals through western Canada and the NWT.

She was senior counsel for the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women in the National MMIWG Inquiry and also acted for the Institute in its involvements as Intervenor in the case of R. v. Barton at the Alberta Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada. 

In 2018 Lisa received the National Zenith Lexpert Mid-Career Excellence Award for her national achievements in Aboriginal Law.  She has received the Social Justice Award and in 2019 she was welcomed into the prestigious Circle of Honour and received the Dorothy McDonald Leadership Award for her advocacy work in pursuing justice for other Aboriginal women. 

Lisa is Métis, and a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta.  Her family ties are to the northern communities and in particular Calling Lake and Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement, where she maintains active membership.
